1. What We Collect

PLANK collects the minimum data needed to provide our hyperlocal social service:

Location data: Your GPS coordinates when you use the app, to show nearby pins and enable pin creation.
Account info: Email address, display name, and optional profile photo.
User content: Pins, messages, photos, and votes you create.
Device info: Device orientation data for the rotation security feature.

2. How We Use It

Show you pins and content near your current location
Enable chat between users at the same location
Authenticate your identity and prevent abuse
Improve the app experience

3. What We Don't Do

We do not sell your data to third parties
We do not track you when the app is closed
We do not use your data for advertising
We do not share location history with other users

4. The "Who posted this?" feature

When you see an active pin, you can ask "Who posted this?". Only the author of that pin is asked: their phone vibrates and asks them to confirm they posted it. If they confirm, their screen shows a soft colour for 3 seconds, and the same colour marks their dot on the pin's image, so you can spot them with your own eyes.

The author never sees your name or anything about you, and nothing appears on their screen before they accept.
No location is sent for this request, and the camera is not used.
The author can ignore it, or turn on "Never ask if I'm the author" in the settings; you then simply see "No answer."
One confirmation counts for everyone asking at the same moment.
The request is deleted from our servers as soon as it ends, and at the latest 2 minutes later: no record of who asked whom is kept. Like any connection, our technical logs keep the time and IP address of each call, without the pin or the other person.

This feature shows nothing more than the pin already displays: it only helps you find, in person, the one who posted it, if they confirm.

5. Data Storage

Your data is stored on our servers in Europe (OVH, France).

A pin is shown for a limited time. Its text is visible to everyone for a few minutes (2 for a PLANK pin, 6 for a CONNECT pin, 30 for the others), then only to its author, to the people whose access request they accepted, and to our moderation team. Its marker stays on the map for up to 10 days (24 hours for the other categories). After that, the pin stays stored on our servers without being shown to anyone: we only use it to look into reported abuse and, in aggregate, to improve the app. If you delete your account, your pins are deleted with it.

6. Your Rights

You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at privacy@compr.ch.

7. Third-Party Services

CARTO: draws the map background. To show it, your phone asks CARTO for the map pictures of the area on your screen, which gives CARTO that area and your IP address. CARTO's Privacy Policy.
OpenStreetMap / Overpass: for venue data (public data)

8. This Website (plank.io)

The plank.io web page uses cookies only if you agree. When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or reject them; until you accept, the page sends nothing to Google Analytics and sets no analytics cookie. You can change your choice at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the page.

Google Analytics 4, only after you accept: counts visits to the page, clicks on the store and legal links, and membership purchases started and completed. Cookies _ga and _ga_CKE6R5PQ1S, kept up to 2 years. No advertising use. Google's Privacy Policy.
cc_cookie, strictly necessary: remembers your cookie choice, kept 6 months.
Stripe, only if you buy a membership on the web: we send Stripe the email you enter and the plan you choose, and you pay on Stripe's own page; we never see your card. Memberships renew automatically until cancelled. Stripe's Privacy Policy.
